Better get this rolling. Four countries have already selected. The Czech one has some 'lol' potential and offers a bit of entertainment, if nothing else. The French entry seems to have got quite a few people excited, but it's certainly not grabbed me so far. Albania sounds OK. Spain seems to have chosen an entry for the 1993 contest. Or possibly even 1977.
Am submitting another song myself this year - another triumph of hope over experience.

A little early for me yet, that said the UK will decide on 7th February, I've listened briefly to all of the acts participating, I like to leave it until the night to listen in full, however there are one or two not to bad, as for a winner, I doubt it , we are not popular, even Adele or Ed Sheeran couldn't win it for us, but a top 10 would be a great achievement...
Goldstone and I Feel The Love, initially stands out..

'Anything on the left' should be our goal! But not going to happen this year, unless one of the candidates really pulls something remarkable out of the bag in performance terms. 'Legends', for me, sounds the best ATM. Mans Z. is co-hosting with Mel G. next Wednesday, so at least the show should be fun.

It's a surprising fact that the "big 5 ", UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, who automatically get to the final due to paying most money to the ESC , only Italy (since its return in 2011) has done well getting 5 top 10 out of 7 years, Germany 2/7, Spain 2/7, France 1/7, and the UK 0/7. The UKs best placing ,5 back in 2009. None of them have won since Germany in 2010, makes you wonder if it's worth it for them. Germany has come last twice, ironically 2016 and 2017, Spain and France once. The UK has came last 3 times the last in 2010. So apart from Italy a poor return for the " Big 5" .

Less than overwhelmed by Melfest Semi-Final 1. Malta selected last night - bang average, unfortunately.

U.K. Chooses tonight..
I'll predict.... SuRie and Storm
big ABBA representation, Mans Zemerlow and UKs last years entry Lucie Jones perform a medley of ABBA hits , not to bad

Never thought I'd utter these words but...'a bit too much ABBA tonight?'
'Storm' is pleasant enough but will get blown away. Prediction: 22nd. Should have taken a risk with 'Legends' (though they'd have had to have done a lot of work to get the performance right. Where did that rapper come from? 1995, I think)

Storm was the least worst choice by a country mile for me. Could make the upper reaches of the right hand side of the board.

Storm, reminds me a little of the UKs last winner, Love Shine. A Light, a little anthemic... it could do ok. Depends if there are loads of ballads or up tempo, the following year 2018, tends to follow the previous and the opposite wins... possible lower side of the right hand side...

So far 21 nations have picked their songs for the contest.. To be honest, I don't think there's a winner among them so far....
Sweden ? Finland? Yet to choose their entry, one with a very good history the other with a good singer...
or could it be Australia's year....

My Top 5 at the moment:
1. Cyprus - superb; I just hope it transfers OK to live performance 2. Ukraine - ESC classic in the making; potentially magnificent 3. Czech Rep - dumb fun; he can perform, too 4. Switzerland - excellent contemporary pop song (or contemporary by ESC standards, anyway) 5. Greece - same goes as for Cyprus with regard to live performance, but the song is superb
Can't abide Estonia's faux-opera nonsense. Still prefer it to Spain and Latvia, though.

We get together as a group of friends to watch each year and collectively we never get it right. Its fun though. Most years the winners disappear into obscurity . Doubt if another act will emulate Abba’s Success. Just wish countries would vote for the best song and not just its because it’s their neighbour. Quite like our entry but unlikely to take the crown.

I'm stumped 🤔...
For me there's really no stand out track, there's quite a few bad ones a few average but no stand out.. perhaps a few more listens will do, but at the moment a very average year, certainly no Euphoria, Heroes, Phoenix.. Sweden probably, and ironically has the most contemporary, but don't really like it... so it could be a wide open race....

I agree - it's wide open this year. Israel has caused a right old splash, but that's mainly just a bit of fan hysteria. It's not going to win. Might get the poultry vote, though:
Really enjoying Bulgaria's entry and also Macedonia's - it's like a song selection box, or maybe the musical equivalent of one of those photofits we used to see on Crimewatch. I think it works, even though it breaks every cardinal rule of the ESC - and a few more besides. TGFE (too good for Eurovision), I reckon. Can't imagine why the Macedonians decided not to choose either of the songs I sent them!

Thanks for pointing me in Macedonia s direction, it's easy to over look some of the lesser countries( that's an awful thing to say but you know what I mean , they haven't a good record in ESC). It's pretty good, nice little chorus, but please ditch the pink " body wear" that will loose her votes straight away.....lol.

Well we are only a few weeks away now from the big day, and still truthfully, I can say for me nothing stands out, it's going to be on the night.
out right favourite is Israel, but I can't see it, a novelty song with chicken clucks!! Bulgaria is heavily fancied, but very dark and somber, Czech another fancied is reminiscent of last years Moldova.... and the list goes on...
perhaps its going to be Australias year, a track that's not going to get many 12 points but will pick up points from everyone
who knows..
as for the UK, another year on the bottom half of the right hand side around 20th....

Just been listening to the double CD and there's certainly a dearth of stand-out songs this year. Maybe about 10 candidates to win. But I'm sure that some others will come alive unexpectedly with the live performance. Rehearsal footage is starting to dribble out now... Eurovision 2018 starts HERE!

I'm not a massive massive Eurovision fan but my friend is and in his car the other day Saara Aalto's song 'Monsters' came on. I really like it! I'm perplexed no one else seems to?! It's so catchy and anthemic. It's way better than the dull UK entry.
I admit I haven't heard any other but this 'Monsters' deserves to win.

It's as good as any of them and better than most....
Nothing against Israel, but I hope they don't win, next year it will be held in a Israeli farmyard with all that clucking otherwise..lol

This may make me look stupid.. However, I think a big surprise just may be Moldova.... not necessarily a winner, but top 10 ?

Moldova - great presentation. On a shoestring budget but very creative. Should secure a Top 10 spot.
Cyprus looks excellent on stage. Could blow everyone else out of the water.
Tonight's Blue Carpet event was great - all the contestants came across really well.

Israel won! 🇮🇱 Congrats Netta.
-Nice voice. -Alright lyrics -Big use of layering in music production via a Launchpad, probably.
"Chicken boy, Wonder Woman." The notion itself is a bit leaning toward superiority; instead I think we should consider two to be both competent humans. Altogether.
Instead of looking down on others. But I kinda get what the artist is communicating... don't look at them as "toys", they are a "creature" and we humans, are technically "creatures".
But you don't have to agree with the artists' views to get the groove of the song.
And I didn't bother to watch Logo TV, the only network for which they air the Eurovision Song Contest in the USA.. lol
I know the dislike for Netta is inevitable, but the clucking is catchy and far out, coming from a music listener who is clearly out of touch of 2010s music. Yes, I am.
And the message, it is mildly palpable, clear to hear, but not extremely blatant.
Honestly after all of the sad ballads (nothing against 2017 winner Salvador Sobral...) and upbeat dance songs with boys doing the neo soul one pony trick, "ooh ooh" and the girls doing the all powerful, meaningful singing (hey, I thought SuRie was good, as well; beautiful and talented! SuRie is better than what I hear on the radio and what I observe in the teenagers who go out and blast trap music and Lil Pump)... Netta is surely a game changer, though the interlude in which she is rapping in that style, is a bit ticking me off.
Regarding Netta's win, we agree to disagree and it is each to one's opinion.
Shalom!

I thought the winning song was abysmal, as were most of the other songs (but not all, some were inoffensive). I find it horribly cynical that she used a word in the song that sounded a little bit like the expletive 'mother******'. Transparently trying to go for the 'cool' vote. Very disappointing.
I've never watched the show before, I did so because a few friends were and as I wasn't going out I thought I might as well. That's four hours of my life I'll never get back! With the best will in the world, it was truly awful. It SHOULD be good, I wanted it to be, but this year... no way.

Every year I say never again.. but get sucked in...
I really did not want Israel to win, it's as bad as Agadoo, ( you tube it if you don't know it or the Chicken Song ) of that irk a terrible standard of a winning song, but hey let's plumb more depths next year when we get singing sheep, laughing pigs, and any other farm yard animal wishing to have a go....lol
saying that it wasn't a good year anyhow, I thought Australia deserved better, ( she tried to hard ) it wasn't a bad little song.
As for the UK, apart from the activist destroying any little chance we had, I'm really beginning to wonder why we bother, nobody likes us and we are part of the big 5 who contribute the most money... do I see a euroexit ( Brexit) on the horizon... we really weren't that bad....Not wishing to offend... just look at Slovenia and Serbia, both above us, ( ok cultural difference et all But...)
so off to sunny Israel in 2019... let's just hope......
cluck cluck cluck .......

I was away this year, so didn’t see the show.
But I’m not sure about the ‘no-one likes us’ argument. After all, Israel is not exactly the world’s favourite country, yet it won.
I always say that the last time we put up a really good song (Love Shine A Light), we won. Most of our entries since have been either abysmal or forgettable.
