You could argue that most feel sorry for Israel.. There may be many reasons, including the UK not putting forward a good song, and after all it's all a matter of opinion...and taste. We will be back...... said Arnie.....

Another way of looking at it... pretty much everyone loves Ireland and the Irish, but look at how badly they do now!
On the other hand, their entries are also usually abysmal or forgettable...

Because Ireland won to many times in a row, so everyone else decided to not vote for them.... I guess there's no reason for anything, because it's Eurovision.....San Marino, little San Marino , in offensive San Marino... hasnt got a chance, regardless of the the tat they send..lol. no rhyme or reason..

The UK entry wasn't outstanding but, especially in such a barren year, it deserved far better. I thought that the way she handled the interloper would play in her favour and deliver the best UK result for years. I struggle to put it down to anything except politics.

The UK entry wasn't outstanding but, especially in such a barren year, it deserved far better. I thought that the way she handled the interloper would play in her favour and deliver the best UK result for years. I struggle to put it down to anything except politics. As a nation, the UK certainly seems to have mislaid its copy of 'How to Win Friends and Influence People'. 17 of the ESC countries aren't even in the EU, so these days we're obviously doing a pretty good job of p*ssing people off on a wider basis! Mind you, the juries would have been voting on Friday's dress rehearsal/'jury final', so that muppet's stage invasion wouldn't have affected 50% of the marks. But as a Eurovision entry, the UK was definitely a 'bottom half' song, though not as low as 24th. Way too bland and too liable to be lost in the cavalcade of 25 other entries. Overall, in terms of song quality, it was certainly the weakest Eurovision for a good few years. And the first 15 minutes of the final was dreadful. Instead of ramping up some excitement, all the energy was sucked out of proceedings by the very low-key (i.e. dull-as-ditchwater) musical intro & flag ceremony. Austria did a fantastic opening in 2015 - probably the best ever - so I'm not sure why Portugal chose to kill the party atmosphere like that. Nevertheless, I was happy with the top two songs. Notwithstanding international delicacies regarding the precise venue for next year's contest, I've no problem with Israel winning with a 'novelty' song. Gloomy times often beget a need for some cheer-up music (as with the ascendancy of Glam Rock during the political/economic turmoil of the early '70s). Plus it had some empowering messages in there. Personally, I preferred Cyprus's entry, which really was superbly presented and executed. But that, as they say, is Eurovision.

It's tough for the UK, whatever we do or who ever we send has nearly an impossible task. None of the " big " stars are interested in fear of their reputation, so we send unknowns or fading stars. So what can we do, the UK side Of Eurovision must be pulling their hair out, considering the amount of money that's pumped into it. I don't think we would qualify from the semi finals at the moment. I do think we " try " to take it more serious but....
Portugal not being a " Rich " country, did their best, but for enjoyment fell far short, it's a showcase for the country, but " fado" is very difficult for the majority of people to like, so not a good choice in retrospect. So onto Israel, where I think it will possibly go to Tel Aviv, the gay capital, for a lot of camp fun and frolics, which again may have a backlash of it being perceived as a " gay " show even now... So another year over and let's see what happens in 2019.... I hear Steps are doing it for the UK....not....

...So onto Israel, where I think it will possibly go to Tel Aviv... Or Jerusalem. That would kick off the mother of all Euro-rows.

Having seen Netta performing 'Toy', I can only hope that the poor girl gets the help that she clearly needs. I do hope that they've kept her Hospital bed empty for her.
It was so brave of her to enter Eurovision when she is so ill. Her 'Tribute' to the Japanese Chickens of the World, will not be forgotten. Or forgiven - by Music Lovers...

What did everyone else think of those “dancers”? I thought it was really cringy. 🤢🤢

The Rubber Ball Man - I was being sarcastic - about Netta's performance.
I thought that she was acting like a 'Nut Case'.

There's a long and proud tradition of pop performers presenting an unhinged persona, back to The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and beyond, and embracing everyone from Wilko Johnson to Lady Gaga. (Not to mention John Otway.) Long may it continue!

Graham -- All 3 ESC Songs will 100% defintely not be in next Week's UK 'Singles' Top 100.
But the ESC will 100% definitely be represented by 'ABBA Gold', in next Week's UK Album Chart.
The same ABBA that the UK Jury gave Zero Points to in 1974. Now ABBA have sold more Records, in the UK, than in any other Country - over 30 Million UK Sales... I call that 'ironic'.

This to win! [Saara Aalto, Finland: Monsters] Last but one
At least it made the final though. Last year's entry from Finland, Norma John with Blackbird, didn't even make it out of the semis. I'm pleased to note that, even a year later, YouTube comments are still wondering how it could have been overlooked. When she sings 'something I'll never have' at 1m36s it's quite touching.
I can't remember being moved by another Eurovision entry, ever. Usually if they're not bouncy, they're schmaltzy. Suggestions welcome though; can anyone set me right with a genuinely emotional entry?

^Yes, that was a pitiful placing for Saara. It wasn't the best song in the world but it was clearly better than many featured.
As for genuinely emotional entries...I'm not sure, maybe the Irish entries by Jonny Logan were supposed to be touching? Although I can't say they do anything for me. Hallelujah, the song? Is that emotional?

Emotional...
Finlands... Hard Rock Hallelujah...
not...lol...
A load of the early winners, were heart tuggers...
my favourite by a mile is 1964, Italys first winner Gigliola Cinquetti and Non ho l'eta ( per Amarti ) absolutely beautiful.
another era totally, very innocent ... in my opinion one of the best ever winners...
if anyone can post it ? Be my guest....
ps her 1974 runner up to who ? " Si" is also pretty good.

Hard to see beyond 'Tu te reconnaîtras', I'd have thought.
