This song? One of their bigger bits in the USA. I feel it is often overlooked. I consider it to be one of their finest recordings. And it still sounds so fresh. And I loved the video too. Might have to dig out the Ludo or Frustration -the popamatic version. Oh the nostalgia! Got me thinking about all those other board games of the time. What’s the name of the games?......Chartbuster, Haunted House, Mouse trap, Operation , it’s a knockout, Mastermind. Happy days indeed.

I definitely ‘feel the same way too’. It’s a great song, and never out of my personal ABBA top five. Quite a daring release too, as it is undoubtedly a lot less commercial than what went before. Unfortunately that was reflected in its less-than-spectacular global sales.

IF YOU DOWNLOADED EARLIER -- TRY AGAIN... I made a mistake in the previous version -- it should now be clear like I suggested. I am not providing everything that I promised, but that is due to the time constraint and my previous error. However, this should be quite pretty sounding.) If you really like 'Name of the Game" -- you might like the version that I created. This was from a Spanish language CD release that wasn't as processed (or decoded) as an American/European release, then subsequently DolbyA decoded (with a vastly superior -- minimal Intermodulation decoder), then removal of some of the harshness from the 90deg phase thingie (used to be used for quad, but in ABBA seems to be used to make them loud sounding.) The sound is impossibly better and quite unprocessed other than basically proper decoding and a minor cleanup (no NR, no 'peaking or heavy EQ', no gating, no expansion other than the DolbyA.) 'The Name Of The Game' is definately in my Top 3 of Abba singles throughout the entire 1974-1982 period. Such an amazing piece, so different to any piece they'd ever done before or there after. It had such a complex arrangement bringing together the vocal talents of Agnetha & Frida in what on first listen seems like two different songs combined into one. Simillar in many ways to the arrangement of 'Should I laugh Or Cry'. Personally this song also means so much to me as it is the story of my life and I can relate to it 100%. I was so glad it ruled the No.1 spot here in England for 4 weeks and was a fantastic fortaste of what was to come from Abba - The Album. I also love the B Side 'I Wonder' (Live). The album version is another favourite of mine.
When 'The Singles' The First 10 Years was released in Dec 1982 I was shocked that they ruined the song with that dreadful 4 min edit chopping out the entire 2nd Verse making it easily the worst ever Abba edit I'd ever had the misfortune to hear until this very day.

Please try name of the game again -- this listening experience WILL BE RELIGIOUS. Listen to the entire thing -- the stereo image will knock your socks off. This is the result of my project and some additional work on audio procesing. Any previous demo PALES in comparison. I am currently processing the entire ABBA corpus in my posession with the technique. Simply spend 10 minutes. It will be worth it. I must pull back the demo soon because it is the complete song.
