The UK's BRIT Awards took place on Wednesday Evening. They are regarded as the highlight of the UK Music Year.
Although they began in 1977, (as The Britannia Awards), there was then a gap until 1982, when they began again.
Since 1982 they have been continuous. As the 1977 Awards were the 1st, they did not just concentrate on what
had been selling in 1976. They looked at the previous 25 Years of UK Chart History.....
So, I thought that I'd do some research, to see if the BRITS have ever paid any attention to ABBA.
1)... I see that the 1977 Awards were the 1st - and only - time that ABBA were Nominated.

2)... I've also found out that The BRITS wanted to give ABBA a special 'Outstanding Contribution' Award
in 1999. It was because ABBA had Won The ESC 25 Years earlier. However, only Bjorn was interested in
attending the 1999 BRITS, so the idea was scrapped. Instead, Bjorn gave out the Award for the Best
International Group to The Corrs. Also, Steps, B*Witched, Billie Piper, Cleopatra & Tina Cousins performed
a 'Thank ABBA For The Music' Medley. That later reached No.4 in the UK Charts.
3)... ABBA could have been Nominated in the 1982 BRIT Awards, which were for success in 1981. However,
they got no attention, at all, in those 1982 Awards. Not for 'The Visitors', (their 7th No.1 Album in a row),
or for 'One Of Us' - their 19th UK Top 10 Hit & their 18th in a row. (They had no chance to be Nominated
at the 1983 BRITS, as they did not release a New Album in 1982 & all 3 of their 1982 Singles failed to reach
the UK Top 20, let alone the Top 10).
4)... This means that ABBA's UK Chart Feats have never been truly reflected - in any way - at The BRITS.
They include ABBA being the Post Beatles Group, (meaning after 1970), with the most Weeks at No.1
in the UK Singles Chart - 31. The Post Beatles Group with the most UK Album No.1 Weeks- 57 The Post
Beatles Group with the most Top 5 Singles Weeks & Albums Weeks - 84 & 149. The Post Beatles Group with
the most Top 10 Singles Weeks & Albums Weeks - 114 & 224.....
NOTE -- In the Post Beatles Era, (after 1970), Westlife are the Act with the most UK No.1 Singles - 14.
Take That are the UK Act with the most UK No.1 Singles, in the Post Beatles Era - 12. Madonna &
Robbie Williams have had the most UK No.1 Albums, in the Post Beatles Era, with 12 each. U2 are the
Group with the most Post Beatles Era No.1 Albums - 10. Queen are the UK Group with the most
Post Beatles no.1 Albums - 9. ABBA have had 9 UK No.1 Singles & 9 UK No.1 Albums, in the Post
Beatles Era.
5).... I see that Queen got no Nomination for 'Best British Group' at the 1977 Awards. This was because
they took place only 3 Years & 7 Months after Queen first Charted in the UK. (March 1974). So, Queen
had not been given 'Legendary' status, by the time the 1977 Awards took place. (October 1977).

in 1977. They Won - jointly, with Procul Harum.

I see that Queen's 'Greatest Hits' was Nominated for the Best British Album in 1982.
The other Nominees were 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier' by Adam & The Ants, and 'Dare'
by Human League. The Adam & The Ants Album Won.....Even though it was released
in 1980 - not 1981.
