A big gap in my reading has always been 19th Century English fiction. I've read quite a lot of 19th Century stuff from other countries but have generally sidestepped stuff from England (except for 'The Moonstone', for some reason, and a couple of others). So...I'm rectifying the omission in 2017. Since Xmas, I've read Charlotte Bronte's 'Villette' (absolutely superb, 10 out of 10) and Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' (not bad, 7 out of 10, but the last 40 pages weren't great). I'm currently two-thirds through George Eliot's 'Silas Marner'.
Any suggestions? Any comments? Any favourites?
