39 years ago today, 'I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do' became ABBA's first number 1 chart topper in Australia !
The song's popularity was boosted, particularly in Australia, by the release of a promo clip shown on television.
Side B of the Australian RCA single is 'Rock Me'.

Now 48 years old!! 😮😮
I love this song, and (checks notes), it ranks as #28 on my all-time ABBA top 40.
Yes, it’s a cheesy old romp but melodically brilliant and unabashedly sweet. Interestingly, I get the impression that Benny and Bjorn have somewhat dismissed this song in later years, particularly whenever Bjorn ruefully reflected on the 18-month downturn after Eurovision, with this track being one of the songs that didn’t exactly set the heather on fire.
But yet it must be up there as one of ABBA’s most heavily promoted singles in terms of TV performances. My own favourite is the ‘picnic’ promo clip in glorious, sharp technicolour; the girls looking quite magnificent and rather bizarrely, the guys on the wrong end of some judo moves!
