Hi. In the Voyage section I asked how the first 2 Voyage sections could be released on a compilation. My suggestion of altering the Gold tracklist was a huge flop. A new double CD including those tracks was the firm favourite. A More Gold re-vamp?
Anyway here is my Fantasy "Gold 2" album. 2 tracks per album (Super Trouper 1, The Visitors 3) and 2 non-album singles.
From Ring Ring People Need Love Ring Ring
From Waterloo Honey Honey My Mama Said
From ABBA I Do x5 Bang a Boomerang
From Arrival My Love My Life When I Kissed the Teacher
From The Album Eagle Hole in Your Soul
From Voulez Vous Kisses of Fire As Good as New
From Super Trouper On and On and On
From The Visitors The Visitors When All is Said and Done Slipping Through My Fingers
From Voyage I Still Have Faith in You Don't Shut Me Down
Non Album Singles Summer Night City The Day Before You Came

I like these hypothetical discussions. The Gold II idea came up in chats before - your idea, I think? - and, at that time, I even put together a playlist on iTunes (bored enough at the time to mock up a cover too, FWIW). My main criterion was that the tracks had to have been single A-sides in some shape or form. From a marketing perspective, you could make arguments for edits/alternate versions here and there. For instance, the longer version of SNC, the promo edits of Eagle and/or TV. Maybe even the Voyage concert version of WAISAD? - Don’t shut me down
- Angeleyes
- Summer night city
- When all is said and done
- Eagle
- On and on and on
- Just a notion
- I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
- Under attack
- The visitors
- The day before you came
- I still have faith in you
- Head over heels
- Honey, honey
- No doubt about it
- Ring, ring
- He is your brother
- So long
- Happy new year

Your tracklist is more realistic than mine. I quite like the idea of alternate versions.
The longer and live version if Summer Night City and something, anything needs to ve done to Under Attack!

[...] and something, anything needs to ve done to Under Attack! IMO, it's a decent song stuck in unfinished production. The intro and verses work well with that lovely bassline and the atmospheric percussion. But then the chorus arrives and... it's like a beachball with a slow puncture. And don't get me started on that nasal-sounding synth solo (which sounds to me like it's echoed to some degree in KAEOD. Better, less flimsy, but familiar). When those "unmixed" tracks leaked a few years ago, this song was a bit of a revelation, with its longer intro and far more layers of harmonies than seem to have made it to the final mix. The chorus sounded much warmer and stronger. Many an other act would see some benefit in tweaking/subtly remixing tracks for compilations but B&B seem to have made sacred cows of their original mixes - even those they mention as not being quite right. My hunch is that Voyage-band versions offer the only hope of getting something "new" from the back catalogue. From the little I've seen from the quickly-deleted YouTube clips, WAISAD seems to be the most radical/interesting of the bunch. Given their comments at the launch thingy in September, I wonder if B&B have somehow managed to get UA (and TKHLHC) included the reserve songs? I think both would benefit from the heft of a live band and the additional texture of other voices in the BVs.

I know there are some Blondie fans here and this may be old news to you. I have just seen an "unboxing" video for their new Against The Odds compilation/box set. The only reason I'm posting about it here is that I think ABBA and their team could learn something about how to repackage and present the back catalogue, setting outtakes and demos in context, and even gathering random live recordings in one place. The book here looks amazing too. superdeluxeedition.com/video/blondie-against-the-odds-1974-1982-unboxed/

OMG, I must have missed those unmixed tracks, what a pity! I would love a compilation like "ABBA revisited" with new mixes of tracks. Even Benny admids for some songs that the final Version didn't do some songs justice. But tbh I believe there is another issue preventing such innovation: Mike Tretow is missing and this might have led to a lack of Inspiration... However, I read somewhere that Benny in particular feels very satisfied with some alterations done in the mixed backing tracks of the songs for the ABBA Voyage Show, maybe this leads to something new.
