I really thought Noel Gallagher was a fan of ABBA until I read an article a few days ago about him unfairly slating ABBA and their hologram concert. All I say is each to one's own. I have never liked either of the Oasis brothers as they are obnoxious and foul-mouthed. Good on ABBA creating a completely unique visual concept. Why not. If other artists or bands don't like ABBA's revolutionary concert then they don't know what they are missing. Noel Gallagher is just an arrogant numpty.

Genius -- I'm not an Oasis Fan, but I have to point out that Noel is a huge ABBA Fan. He just does not agree with an Act - any Act - performing as Holograms, rather as themselves. He has not said anything bad about ABBA as People, or their Music. He just does not agree with The ABBAtars. Let's face it - nor do a lot of 'ordinary' ABBA Fans! He is no different from the many Fans, who see no point in The ABBAtars 'Shows'. Noel called them 'Meaningless'. He gave an Interview to 'The Mirror', and said that in it. 'The Mirror' tried to cause trouble, by doing a Headline, saying that Noel said that ABBA were 'Meaningless'! He said no such thing. He was only stating his views on The ABBAtars 'Shows'. He is entitled to feel that way, if he wishes.
I don't agree with everything that ABBA do. But, I'm still a huge Fan. As is Noel.
In 2004, Channel 4 TV, (UK), started the 'British Music Hall Of Fame'. 10 Acts from each Decade, (1950's to 1990's), were Nominated for the Public Vote. Each Act had a Famous 'Sponsor', to tell the Public how great the Act was. Noel was ABBA's 'Sponsor'. He went on and on, about how great their Music is, and how they really deserved to Win the 1970's vote. Unfortunately, the UK Public Voted for Queen, instead. (There were only 2 more Ceremonies, and ABBA were not even mentioned, in either the 2005 or the 2006 Awards Shows).
So, Noel really is a big ABBA Fan. He just disagrees with The ABBAtars, that's all. As do many ABBA Fans.

Just to agree with what onlyabba4meagain said, I'm not a fan of Oasis, nor of Noel and Liam Gallagher, but I do think Noel Gallagher expressed an arguable viewpoint. It doesn't strike me as anti-ABBA, per se, to be against the notion of creating avatars of their younger selves in their heyday instead of performing live now. I hope those who go to see the show will enjoy it; but I don't see anything wrong with older musicians still performing their music live in any way they deemed worthwhile - if they wanted to do that, of course. But ABBA don't. And they don't think most fans would like them to do that, either.

Maybe I was a tad too strong in my condemnation. At the end of the day the papers are at fault and do like to stir up trouble.

I didn't know Noel Gallagher was a big ABBA Fan! Yes, it's possible to be a fan but not keen on the Abbatars project.
I knew many Punks/Nee Wave people were eg Joe Strummer, the Clash Elvis Costello and members of the Sex Pistols.

He is indeed, Johnny. You are spot on that he doesn't rate the ABBAtars concert very highly. I have warmed to the hologram concert and wouldn't mind going in May. It will be a spectacular event that I'm sure of. The papers like to stir up trouble and blow stories out of proportion for their satisfaction.
Many punk/indie bands are fans of ABBA as you have mentioned. Also, Kurt Kobain from Nirvana loved ABBA and Dave Grohl is a massive fan.
