Eurovision : Come Together - The Voting List

Tonight from 6.25 pm to 8 pm, the UK's BBC 1 TV, will show 'Eurovision : Come Together'.
As part of a 'Eurovision Night', on both BBC 1 and BBC 2.

A 'Panel of Experts' has selected 19 Entries from past Eurovision Song Contests.

After all 19 Performances have been shown, Viewers can Vote for their favourite Song.

The 19 Entries chosen are:

NOTES 

1)... So, ABBA were, (obviously), one of the 19 Songs chosen.

2)... As I expected, the 2012 Winner, for Sweden, has been chosen - 'Euphoria' by Loreen.

3)... The UK has Won the Contest 5 times. Three of the UK Winning Entries have made the List.
Sandie Shaw's 'Puppet On A String', (1967), and Lulu's 'Boom Bang-a-Bang', did not make it.
I think that 'Puppet On A String' is the 3rd 'Biggest Selling Winner', from The ESC, after the
1976 Winner - 'Save Your Kisses For Me', (6 Million), and 'Waterloo', (5.5 Million). Sandie's
1967 Winning Song, sold over 4 Million Globally. However, it was the 1958 Italian Entry, which
sold the most copies, Worldwide. Even though it only came 3rd. It was 'Nel Blu Dipinto, Di Blu',
by Domenico Modugno. That sold around 10 Million Global copies. Lulu's 1969 Winner, was one
of 4 Songs to Win that Year! 1969's other 3 Winning Countries were France, The Netherlands
and Spain.

4)... Brotherhood Of Man started to, (deliberately), sound like ABBA, from 1977 on-wards.
Some 'Experts', say that their 1976 ESC Winning Entry, sounds like ABBA. However, they
are really just comparing them, because they are both 2 Male/2 Female Groups. Their
1976 Entry, 'Save Your Kisses for Me', sounds nothing like ABBA. It is clearly based on
Dawn's 1973 Global Hit - 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon'. It sounds far more like that, than any
Song, that ABBA ever did. Brotherhood Of Man's next Single was: 'My Sweet Rosalie', 
which was almost identical to their ESC Winner. By an amazing coincidence, Dawn had
followed up 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon' with: 'Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose'!!!
 
5)... The UK's 1996 ESC Entry has also been chosen. That's 'Ooh...Aah...Just A Little Bit', by
Gina G, who is an Australian. To a lot of people's surprise, (mine included), it only finished in
8th place. However, it was a far bigger Global Hit than Ireland's Winning Entry - Eimear Quinn's
'The Voice'. Gina's Entry was a hit in several Countries, including No.1 in the UK and No.12 in
the USA - the 4th biggest ESC Hit there. The only 3 ESC Entries, to be bigger USA Hits were:
The 1958 Italian Entry, (No.1 - 5 Weeks), 'Waterloo' - No.6 and  'Eres Tu', 2nd, (for Spain), in 1973
- No.9. The 1976 Winner - 'Save Your Kisses For Me', by Brotherhood Of Man, is the 5th biggest USA
Hit, from Eurovision. That reached No.27 there.

6)... In 1973, Anne-Marie David, (Luxembourg), Won The ESC, with "Tu Te Reconnaîtras",
('You'll Recognize Yourself'). The English Language version was called, 'Wonderful Dream'.
However, 'Eres Tu', ('It's You'), which came 2nd, (for Spain), was a much bigger Global Hit.
It even reached No.9, in the USA Top 10, where The ESC was unknown. Anne-Marie David's
Winning Song, was a UK No.13 Hit, via 'Wonderful Dream'. However, 'Eres Tu' was not a
UK Hit. I like both 'Eres Tu' and 'Wonderful Dream'... 

7)... The 1958 Italian Entry - 'Del Blu Dipinto Di Blu', ('In The Blue That Is Painted Blue'), 
by Domenico Modugno, only came 3rd in the Contest, but it was huge around the World,
and the USA's Best Selling Single of 1958. It was No.1, for 5 Weeks there. It is said to be
The Contest's Best Selling Entry Song, with at least 10 Million Global Sales. It's much better
known as 'Volare', ('To Fly'), which has been covered by a great many Pop Stars, and was a
Hit for several of them. With all of the 'Volare' cover versions Sales, added in, the Song is said
to have sold over 22 Million copies...

8)... Another ESC Entry, reached No.1 in the USA, but it was not the version that Entered. It
was an Instrumental cover, of the 1967 Luxembourg Entry - 'L'Amour Est Bleu'. ('Love Is Blue').
In The Contest, it was sung by Vicky, (Vicky Leandros), who is from Greece. It only came 4th.
Vicky Leandros Won The Contest, as the Luxembourg Entry, in 1972 with 'Apre Toi', ('After You'), 
which she also recorded in English, as 'Come What May'. In 1968, France's Paul Mauriat, (and
his Orchestra), recorded 'Love Is Blue', as an Instrumental and it went to No.1, (5 Weeks), in
the USA. It was the USA's 2nd Best selling Single of 1968 - after The Beatles, 'Hey Jude'. 

9)... So, the 2 biggest ESC Songs, in the USA, never actually Won The Contest! One came
3rd, in 1958 and the other was an Instrumental cover, of Luxembourg's 1967 Entry, which came
4th. Both went to No.1 - for 5 Weeks - in the USA. Both had 'Blue' in their Titles. (ABBA's 'Waterloo'
remains the highest Charting ESC Winner, in the USA - even though it 'only' Peaked at No.6.).
