How sad that Marie Fredriksson has passed away at only 61 years old. She fought that illness for so long, and now a beautiful voice has left us.

It's very sad, she was one of my most favourite singers. I was taken aback by the news, I had no clue she was so grievously ill. She was so optimistic about having won the battle with cancer and when she retired from music business few years ago for obvious reasons, I was secretly hoping she would return with a new song now and then. She was a very gifted songwriter! I regret very much that I had no chance to meet her in person, even if I saw her in concert a few times. R.I.P. Marie! I will miss you...

Funnily enough, I was quite saddened by this news today (given that people we don't know personally die every day). There was just something so touching about this lady and how she fought this bloody evil cancer for so long. 61 is far too young! And what a voice! Immediately recognisable. Some very iconic songs.
Her family must be devastated.
R.I.P. Marie.

Sad to hear Roxette were very popular here in Australia in the late 80's and early 90's. Cancer is a horrible disease and the treatments for it is just as bad.

Due to Marie's death, Roxette are currently the World's biggest Act on Global iTunes and the biggest Act on European Itunes.
It was a huge shock, that she has died. I was not even aware of her long term illness.
Roxette had a strange UK Chart History. They never had any No.1 Singles or Albums, but they had a lot of Hits. Their biggest Single was 'It Must Have Been Love', which was No.3 in 1990 and No.10 in 1993. Their biggest UK Album was 'Joyride' - No.2 in 1991. ('Tourism' also reached No.2 - 1992). However, they were the biggest Act, from Scandinavia, in the USA Singles Chart - 4 No.1 Hits. ABBA only had 1. So did A-Ha. So did Ace Of Base', but Ace Of Base did reach No.1 with 'The Sign' Album, in the USA and no other Scandinavian Act achieved a Top 5 Album there). Roxette's biggest USA Album was 'Joyride' - No.12.

Strange how such sad circumstances can boost sales. The prices of certain Roxette-related items on Discogs sky-rocketed too the day Marie's passing was announced. I don't see how somebody can try to make profit of someone else's grief. But I actually expect EMI to release a career retrospective box soon too...

Very sad news, I was deeply moved when I heard it. Maybe because she looked so beautiful yet vulnerable even before her health problems, and she seemed like a genuinely good person. Judging by all the comments on the web, she touched a lot of hearts around the world. I hope it's an occasion for people who haven't heard her own stuff before to listen to her Swedish songs, in particular 'Sparvöga' and 'Ännu doftar kärlek'.
