You fans in Europe who lived the Abba years how much did television show those clips in your countries ? Did you have specific music programs / television shows showing the promo clip when they had a hit in your country ?

Abbaprofessor, we here in the UK had "Top Of The Pops" which always featured a promo clip from ABBA to launch each single they released here. There were many other music programmes which showed the ABBA videos. Now we are lucky with footage of performances from ABBA all over the world on DVD.

We also had the “Multi-coloured Swap Shop” in the UK which could usually be relied upon to show ABBA’s videos. In particular, I do remember seeing both Eagle and Happy New Year - two songs that were never singles here - on that.
Other than that, I definitely remember seeing the videos for The Name of The Game, Take A Chance on Me, Gimme Gimme Gimme, The Winner Takes It All, One of Us and Head Over Heels on UK TV (either Swap Shop, Top of the Pops or both). I don’t recall seeing any of the other videos on TV though. My “ABBA memory” only really starts with The Name of the Game though. Not sure why I don’t recall Summer Night City or many of the Voulez-Vous videos. I do remember seeing the live footage of I Have A Dream and then being a bit disappointed that the actual single only contained the regular studio version.
The Day Before You Came, I can only truly remember being on TV for “Freeze Frame”, a US-made ABBA special shown on ITV Saturday mornings sometime in 1983. That was the first time I saw the When All Is Said and Done video. Under Attack I remember from The Money Programme, which had a feature on ABBA’s/Polar’s financial difficulties in 1983.
Other than videos, I do remember ABBA on Blue Peter, ABBA on Mike Yarwood, ABBA In Switzerland and ABBA Words and Music from their original showings.

Wow, you're lucky to have seen so much, Alan! I recall seeing very little. I think I caught ABBA in Switzerland but of course there was no way to record it to watch at leisure. I also remember ABBA on The Mike Yarwood Show but only vaguely. I wasn't able to watch TOTP much as my dad controlled the tv mostly. In all honestly, a lot of the promo videos I didn't get to see until long after. Still, it was a treat when I finally did.

We didn’t have a video recorder until 1983, but prior to that my brother recorded TV appearances onto audio cassette. Blue Peter, ABBA In Switzerland and Words and Music were all recorded that way (with Mike Yarwood, we missed If It Wasn’t For The Nights as round at grandparents for Christmas Day, only arriving home in time for Thank You For The Music).
