Wonder what they are doing now? Does anyone know? I so looked forward to getting my monthly Abba magazine (still got them all) and my quarterly newsletter from the fan club based in Swindon.

I certainly do remember them. I also remember sending a postal order to join the fan club and I still haven't heard back from them all these years later.

Lol. Think that ship has sailed. I too remember having to send a postal order to the fan club . Just so you know what you missed... a white cardboard folder with the Abba logo on it, a black key ring with the Abba logo on it, a black and white and a colour photograph of the group, a round Abba logo pin badge 2 Abba logo stickers with Fanclub on them and a white plastic bag with the Abba logo on it. And 4 quarterly news letters . All that for £1.50 ..,,if I remember correctly. That was way back in 1977. Feels like a Bullseye , Jim Bowen moment there....’here’s what you could have won’ .

Yes, I joined, must have been around 1979. I remember that white folder. I might still have it somewhere but I don’t think I still have any of its contents. It was really disappointing.
Charlie I do remember. As a kid, I associated “Charlie” with an older person (perhaps I was thinking of Charlie in Charlie’s Angels). So I sssumed the magazine was being edited by someone that looked a bit like Stig Anderson and around that age. I think it was only the final issue of ABBA Magazine where there were staff photos and I was gobsmacked that he actually looked quite young!
I imagine that neither Sue nor Charlie were huge fans. It was their jobs so they presumably researched ABBA enough. The magazine was official so it would often have exclusive interviews with members of ABBA etc. I remember in the letters page, some reader would ask a trivial question and the response would be “Agnetha writes...” to give the impression they were much more closely involved than they were.
My brother gave me his collection of the Magazine a few years ago, so I still have them. A few issues he never had but anything he did is there in the white and blue binders. As with most print media these days, I rarely look at them.

In fairness, I don't think I filled out the postal order properly. But it seemed a lot of money at the time and I was only 12 or 13 and fairly clueless about such things.
I recall Sue had a curly perm and it was said she resembled Frida somewhat? Charlie I can't recall. I have one or two of the ABBA magazines somewhere- I must have a look to see what he looked like. Wasn't there some kind of penpal section, too? How great was that? Sadly I don't think this is too common these days but I had two- a boy and a girl- we wrote to one another for a few years but I actually can't remember their names or where they lived! Sad. My memory is pretty lousy, but then it was a very long time ago and life really was very different to today.

Remember there was an Abba grub section. Don’t ask me why? Seemed a waste of a page which could have been used for Abba news. I managed to get on to the letters page. Think it was issue 41 when there was a question mark over which album sold the most in 1980. They managed to get my then address wrong at that time having me living in But Tower instead of Bute Tower. Need to dig them out from storage and reminisce. Remember when I got each issue I was hoping for information on new song titles as yet unheard and trying to imagine how they would sound. Remember in 1978, Lovelight , No man’s land and Just a notion , got a mention. Still have the Abba newsletters. Don’t know if there featured elsewhere on this site. So could probably get them on here for historical interest.

I seem to recall a song titled The Devil in Miss Jones?
How I wish that had come to fruition. It's possible it turned into one of our beloved favourites. It's been a while since I read any ABBA biogs so I'm unsure.
I think there was a crossword. I didn't much care for that. I longed for more pictures and interviews. We were always left wanting. Or perhaps I was just greedy.

No. I know I was not keen on filler pages. Just wanted news...how they were doing elsewhere in the world, news on new songs and new pictures.

What I did find a bit frustrating about the ABBA Magazine was, although it had strong links with Polar, it didn’t appear to have any such association with CBS in the UK, so any picture discs (Voulez-Vous album, One of Us and Under Attack singles etc), I was completely unaware of until later.
In later years it became the so-called “International ABBA Magazine” so you’d have the editorial bit spread over two pages and in three languages. There was “ABBA Swap” which they always had to point out “doesn’t mean buy or sell” and things like Pen Pals they were quite strict on, stating that any duplicate letters would all be scrapped. It gave the impression that the readers cheated a lot.
One great thing about the Magazine was the offer on rare albums. We got the Ring Ring album and Frida Ensam through it, but many more were offered for sale. The interviews were good. One I remember is Agnetha commenting on Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, a track she doesn’t appear on the final version of. She mentioned it was tried out with different arrangements (which we eventually heard in 2012).
“Dear ABBA” always started with “anything you ever wanted to know about ABBA? Such as, does Frida darn Benny’s socks, or where does Björn get his guitar strings?” I think someone did jokingly ask that once but didn’t get an answer.

From the final issue of International ABBA Magazine, November 1983. Guessing there were more people that worked on it than this. It amused me at the time that they were shown smiling even though they were now possibly out of work.

I remember those magazines they came out once a month and if they didn't come I used to get very upset about it. LOL. I still have them but haven't really looked at them for a long time, some of them got a bit Tatty with the pages coming out. I stopped buying them in later years.

I think Sue was a fan, if not Charlie. The fan club grew quite large (over 30,000 subscribers i think) so sending out all that stuff must have been a lot of work. I'm sure she must have had good links with Epic and Bocu, and I know that she was on duty taking tickets at the front of Wembley Arena in 1979 as well. When the fan club finally closed down around 1984/5, she seemed to slip into obscurity.

I remember Sue had a perm and looked a bit like Frida? Well, maybe.
I wasn't joking about the postal order! It's one of the reasons I haven't joined any groups since like that official ABBA fan club malarkey.
I am of course ABBA's biggest and most loyal fan 😆 but I've never felt the need to do such things or write to Agnetha and Frida. I mean, why would I, when we're having lunch next week? 😂😇
