Another collectors item.emmmm I guess the first batch will be the most sort after.. wonder how much they will be.....
It's a shame and probably impossible now for it to have not been a hit in the UK, it could've ended up a perennial favourite...... Liked mentioned a million times with the removal of 1989, it would have been timeless...

Graham -- All that ABBA have to do is to record a brand New Christmas Song and they will re-enter the World's Singles Charts every December - easily. Because 'Old' Acts even get loads of Streaming, when it comes to Christmas Songs. Which is why Mariah Carey, Wham!, Boney M, Wizzard etc. re-enter the UK Singles Chart every Christmas. ABBA never do. They did no Christmas Songs. 'Happy New Year' is never a December or January Hit in any English speaking Country. It is only about 1 Day and it does not hold enough 'Seasonal' interest to be a Hit. (Oddly, it can still be a Hit in various non-English speaking Countries, such as Sweden, Germany, Norway and The Netherlands).
I've read that all 3,000 World copies of the White Vinyl 'Happy New Year'/'Felicidad', are already 'Sold Out'. With copies already being 'Pre-Sold' on Ebay for as much as £90...

It was always a bit of a mystery why they never got close to a Christmas themed track let alone single, it's not even mentioned in a lyric...strange coming from a European country with quite a strong Christmas ethic, it would probably be a question I'd ask if I could've, ..
Still it's not out of the realms of possibilities with the potential of what's going on....

'Happy New Year'/'Felicidad' has entered the UK Vinyl Singles Chart at No.2.
It was released on Friday 7th December.
Only 3,000 were 'Pressed' Worldwide, but a Single only needs to sell a few hundred, to get into the UK Vinyl Singles Chart.
It is the 1st time that 'Happy New Year' has entered any UK Chart...

It's a great result in one way. However with only 3000 copies worldwide , how many did the UK have, not many, so it's bound to plummet next week. As nice as it all is , does it really have any relevance to anything ? A maximum of a couple of 100 being sold... if only they had made a Christmas double A side with this being one of them, they would've had Christmas covered for 38 years by now !! Returning to the charts year in year out...

I can't think of anything worse. It would probably be as hated as Mistletoe and Wine and There's No One Quite Like Grandma. Or even the dreadful Slade song, Merry Christmas Everybody.

I was always quite pleased that ABBA never lowered themselves to making a Christmas single. Mind you, I Have A Dream and Super Trouper always sounded quite Christmassy to me.

Gary -- Plus some other Fans here -- I'm pretty sure that if ABBA did a Christmas Song, it would be one of the very best that's ever been recorded.
Yes, some Christmas Hits are not respected. But many are given a lot of respect. Such as those by The Pogues, Slade, Wizzard, Mariah Carey, Wham!, John Lennon, Brenda Lee, Darlene Love, The Ronettes and Band Aid etc.
The truth is, that the way 'Streaming' cripples, (holds back), so many 'Old' Acts, these days, a Christmas Song may well be the only way that ABBA can have a big Hit Single, in this 'Era'. Because, at Christmas a great many people Stream Christmas Songs and give them Millions of plays. People don't care how 'Old' the Act is - they just want to play Christmas Songs.
Surely, some ABBA Fans are not saying that they'd rather ABBA never had a Hit Single again, as long as they never record a Christmas Song? Even Queen recorded a Christmas Song. For some reason, their 'Thank God It's Christmas' never re-Charts in the UK, at Christmastime. Even this Year it has not re-entered the Top 100, and Queen are huge at the moment, due to their 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Film. Their Christmas Song is rather bland, and unexciting, and I believe that is why the UK ignores it at Christmas. I'm sure that ABBA could come up with a far more spectacular Christmas Song.
Here are the Christmas Songs in the latest UK Top 100 -- W/E 27th December -- All 38 0f them!!!
(W/E 20th December Positions In Brackets)
Most of them re-Chart every November and December. Would it not be great to see ABBA do so too?
ABBA have not been in the UK's Top 100 Singles Chart since W/E 30th August 2008 -- 'Mamma Mia'. They'd re-enter every Christmas, if they recorded a Christmas Song. (Boney M do).

And probably all 38 will be out of the charts next Friday, or at least the vast majority,
but that's the nature of the charts, ABBA could possibly hang on another week if there had been that double A side of HNY plus that elusive Christmas track...
we will now have to wait wait until Christmas 2019....lol...
Meanwhile HNY , drops from 2 to 33 in the UK singles vinyl charts...

I take your point, Colin. And there are a few songs in that list that I quite like (Pogues, Elton John, Wizzard, John Lennon, Slade, Pretenders). And I probably would like an ABBA Christmas song simply because it was ABBA.
But there's something so tacky and money-grabbing about the whole genre. And also about (a bugbear of mine) songs being used in adverts. Queen are the worst example of these bar none. Thank God It's Christmas is dire (even by Queen's low standards), and as for the use of Queen's songs to sell kitchen floor cleaner and god knows what else - don't get me started.
I just like the fact that my favourite pop act never did a Christmas song, and nor do their songs appear in adverts. That’s class.

If ABBA were to release a 'Christmas single', it would be so cynical and awful. Jumping on a bandwagon, etc. There's no need for ABBA to do any such thing. They've already had their success (and they're still having it, in many ways). Their legendary status is fixed, they don't need to tarnish it with a Christmas single or any more horrendous Mamma Mia!
As for chart placings....meh. A number one would be great but it's not the be and end all.
My hope is for the new music to make the light of day SOON so I can enjoy it. The avatar thing remains to be seen.

As usual 'Happy New Year' has done well, (on iTunes), in the latter few days of last Year and the 1st day or so of this Year.
Over the past few days it reached as high as No.19 on Worldwide iTunes and No.10 on European iTunes.
Also - as usual - it did next to nothing in the English speaking Countries. It reached No.80 on UK iTunes, about No.86 on Ireland's iTunes, and failed to do anything on the iTunes of the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. (It reached No.21 on South Africa's iTunes, but English is the 2nd language there).
I've never worked out why 'Happy New Year' struggles to make a New Year impact in the iTunes of the English speaking Countries. Some say that English speaking people dislike the 1989 in the lyrics!
Unfortunately, 'Happy New Year' is about just 1 day really, which is why it fails to hang around iTunes as long as the Christmas Songs, each late December and early January...
At its 1st January 2019 iTunes Peak 'Happy New Year' was at No.1 in 9 Countries and Top 10 in 10 more. It was Top 5 in 9 of those other 10 Countries.
It has done very well indeed in The Netherlands, where it managed to have 2 places in their iTunes Top 5. In January 2011, it became ABBA's 24th Top 10 Hit there, in the National Weekly Chart - No.8. That was via Downloads.
'Happy New Year' -- On Global iTunes -- Tuesday 1st January 2019
#1 Finland
#1 Kazakhstan
#1 Lebanon
#1 Moldova
#1 Mongolia
#1 Norway
#1 Russia
#1 Sweden -- (Also No.36)

#2 Czech Republic -- (Also No.29)
#2 Israel
#2 The Netherlands -- (Also No.4)
#2 Vietnam
#3 Hungary
#3 Slovakia
#3 Switzerland
#4 Denmark -- (Also No.76)
#5 Latvia
#6 Uzbekistan
#13 Germany
#14 Austria
#15 Armenia
#15 Luxembourg
#15 Romania
#17 Namibia
#17 United Arab Emirates
#20 Indonesia
#21 Azerbaijan
#21 South Africa
#24 Belarus
#25 Poland
#31 Kyrgyzstan
#36 Belgium -- (Also No.90)
#39 Thailand
#49 India
#50 Singapore
#71 Hong Kong
#87 United Kingdom
#90 Ireland
#98 Turkey

^^I see it's nowhere here in the USA , but I shared it on Facebook each of the last two years. I don't mind 1989 being in the lyrics.
