Goes to show the power of placing just the right song in the right setting. Those are phenomenal streaming numbers! Yes, the BBC News reported this yesterday. I didn’t realise that streaming could earn that much. Yes, the figures are phenomenal but even so, it surprises me. I don’t begrudge her a penny of it. Had my own Running Up That Hill day today. Listened to all six official versions and dug out my four singles (7”, 12”, 2012 remix promo CD and 2013 10” picture disc). For a song that’s been in my DNA (to use an awful saying) for 37 years, it’s been a bit of a rediscovery.

Kate Bush new interview on radio Wednesday 22June on BBC Woman’s Hour at 10am As I expected, no revelations. Gave very little away and at times, some short answers. Presumably she’d already briefed them not to ask about new music.

Kate Bush new interview on radio Wednesday 22June on BBC Woman’s Hour at 10am As I expected, no revelations. Gave very little away and at times, some short answers. Presumably she’d already briefed them not to ask about new music. To me, it was a disappointing interview. It was marvellous to hear her voice in 2022, of course, and it was right to talk about the Stranger Things/renewed chart success that Kate is currently experiencing. But there was nothing along the lines of 'What have you been doing since your last concert residency?', 'Are you making any new music?' or 'Do you consider yourself to be retired?' It may well be that Kate did not want to reveal too much, but an acknowledgement that those were the types of questions fans wanted to ask would have been nice. Even if Kate had just said 'I'd prefer not to comment on that at the moment', we would at least have known that the question had been asked...

I wonder if Kate killed two birds with one stone in this interview? Maybe it was longer? And, has talked about new music, maybe it’s imminent. If she wants new music to have a major impact it will be good to stay a bit public, RUTH looks as if it will be no’1 for a second week, which means it will probably stay in charts to about August, September, a new album then would avoid the Christmas Quarter and more major releases, so maybe a No’1 album too, which would be her first since 1986. Kate’s albums have a constant but not remarkable sales since the 90s, so a new album may sell more with new fan base.

Love Kate, but that interview was underwhelming. Still, I expected her to be just like that...polite and nice but giving away no secrets. Oh well.

Kate's Running Up That Hill analysed and admired by Rick Beato, a musician he really knows his stuff. I find it encouraging that he has 3 million subscribers, a lot of them quite young, apparently. I'm sure they can get a lot of insights from him.

Sometimes I raise my eyebrows at some ABBA releases, but thankfully they’ve come no where near to what Kate Bush is doing. Take a look at this. It’s real, it’s not 1 April. music.katebush.com/buy/hounds-of-love-lost-at-sea/To recap, one version of the whole vinyl album in an entirely new cover for £138, or half the album in even more lavish packaging for £285. Or both halves of the album in a bundle for £500. Bonkers. RuPaul’s Drag Race UK last night had its annual Snatch Game. Kate Butch (his dragname) did Kate Bush, reinvented as this gruff cockney but still looking the part. Worth a look.
