Hi, I am sort of rounding up the troops. As a bit of fun to cheer us up, this is completely voluntary. If anyone else is interested in participating in the megarate please feel free to do so. I will leave Richard of the hook as he politely declined. I will leave the choice up to you. All you have to do is to post your three favourite songs from all of ABBA's studio albums including non album singles and b-sides. Happy posting !

Sorry, @genius, I’ll have to very politely decline as well. I’ve never been able to rank songs. I had thought about this, but in most cases I’d just be picking out the singles. If there’s an album track I like, I find myself thinking “do I prefer it to a single just because I’ve heard it less often?” I’d probably want to end up doing it twice - once for singles, and once for album tracks!

That is fine, Alan. It is an extremely hard task as there are so many good songs from an impressive back catalogue and new album.

Graham, I am going to extend the deadline for any members of the forum who wish to submit their three favourite tracks from each ABBA studio album and haven't as of yet until 31ST JANUARY 2022. If you wish to participate then you only have a couple of weeks left. You don't have to if you wish not to. A big thank you to all who have.

This poll has made me re visit the older albums and appreciate some of the songs I had not played in a long time....He is your brother, ATAT,My Mamma Said, Suzy hang around, GSYML,DWTMSGO,Ring Ring. Getting to appreciate them all over again. I have even grown to like Man in the middle. The music in particular. Intermezzo got me thinking too. Could they have ever put words to it? Was it their intention to have an instrumental on Abba and then the Arrival albums? Two very different instrumentals. One all guns blazing and the other very haunting. Music really doe make you reconnect with your past. Hearing these songs take me right back to carefree days. Days when I only had the albums Abba, Waterloo and GH. The beginning of my Abba journey. And what a ride it has been. And here I am today...listening to the old and the new still with the same passion.

It doesn’t really belong in here but someone on PopJustice has posted a list of the best sources of ABBA albums for sound quality. Just thought it was worth posting it (all their words, not mine):
Ring Ring – Deluxe Edition, 2013, Polar/Universal Waterloo – Deluxe Edition, 2014, Polar/Universal ABBA – Deluxe Edition, 2012, Polar/Universal Arrival – 1984, Polydor or Polar CD (identical masters) The Album – 2001 Astley remaster, Polar/Universal (although none are really acceptable) Voulez-Vous – 1984 Polydor or Polar. Deluxe Edition, 2010, Polar/Universal is a VERY close second Super Trouper – Deluxe Edition, 2011, Polar/Universal The Visitors – 1983, Polydor or Polar
There are also a whole host of compilations issued on CD between 1983 and 1992 that are worth hunting for, as in some cases they offer the best audio available for some songs.
Noteworthy are:
Greatest Hits Vol 2 – Polydor/Polar 1983 The Singles: The First 10 Years - Polydor/Polar 1983 From ABBA With Love – Polydor 1984 ABBA International – Polydor 1988 The Hits, The Hits 2, The Hits 3 and The Love Songs – Pickwick UK, 1987 – 1989
“The Album” is a mess. Every single CD release is poor. Either it uses badly damaged tapes with notable distortion all over side A, or it has very strange EQ and no bass. I have had to make a playlist from multiple sources that I have found works well:
1. Eagle (from Pickwick UK “The Hits Vol. 2” CD) 2. Take A Chance On Me (from Polydor/Polar “Greatest Hits Vol 2” CD or “The Singles: The First 10 Years” CD) 3. One Man, One Woman (from Pickwick UK “The Love Songs” CD) 4. The Name of The Game (from 2014 “Mastered for iTunes” series, but for a CD source, try 2001 Astley release of “The Album”) 5. Move On (from Polydor/Polar “The Album” CD, 1984) 6. Hole In Your Soul (from Polydor/Polar “The Album” CD, 1984) 7. Thank You For The Music (from Polydor/Polar “Greatest Hits Vol 2” CD, 1983) 8. I Wonder (Departure) (from Polydor/Polar “Greatest Hits Vol 2” CD, 1983) 9. I’m A Marionette (from Polydor/Polar “The Album” CD, 1984)

Great job done, genius, thank you! Very interesting results, The Top 5 ( in reverse order ) 5. Ring Ring ( 31 ) 4. SOS ( 32 ) 3. Knowing Me Knowing You ( 33 ) 2. The Winner Takes It All ( 36 ) 1. Don't Shut Me Down ( 40 ) Very surprised TYFTM and TWOFD scored 0 points and RR in 5th place with 31. Let me know your comments. I guess RR scoring 31 (as well as DSMD topping the list) is because of separated voting for each album, and the albums as someone has mentioned are not equal, so RR could have been No.10 be it the song from Arrival, for example.

Thank you Genius for that analysis - very interesting. I think JeniLP has hit the nail on the head regarding the popularity of "Ring Ring". It isn't really a fans' Top 5 of ABBA songs.
I'm surprised that TYFTM did so badly. When "The Album" first came out, it was one of my Top 3 tracks, but it has had so much exposure that it has fallen down my ratings - perhaps it isn't as enduring as many of their other tracks.

Thanks Genius. I know it was easier picking tracks from the first two albums. Not so easy from Abba on. From Voyage, Bumblebee is actually my 4th favourite but would have featured above Ring Ring. When I was young I loved TYFTM but I have grown tired of it. Not dated well.

Thanks for your voting and comments guys. I agree RR isn't really a favourite but very surprised to see the song score so high. DSMD is the ultimate fans' favourite. I adore the song. I think a happier version of TWTIA. I am more than pleased to see TWTIA, KMKY AND SOS fare so well. From the album "Voyage ", I love both ICBTW and B and am a little disappointed both songs fared badly. Two personal favourites of mine from ABBA's latest album. Keep posting !

Maybe the phenomenon of TYFTM is related to its very quirky and unique mood of music and theme. It is neither festive nor melancholic (or rather both!), it is different. But if it hits the current spirits of the listener it works like magic.

There's no doubt that TYFTM is a very popular track amongst the general public. Despite not being a single (in most territories) during ABBA's best years (we won't count the UK single release in 1983), it is still almost universally known and possibly ABBA's best-known album track. I guess this may have partly arisen from its inclusion on "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" and then "Gold", plus it was part of the "Thank ABBA For The Music" tribute medley in 1999.

I completely agree. I have already pointed out that choosing three favourites from each studio album hardly creates one's Top 30. Personally I would probably place all songs from the albums Arrival - The Visitors above any song from Ring Ring. Maybe to make the results more realistic, everybody, who voted for the songs should also rate the albums they're taken from. And then the points awarded to each song would be multiplied by a coefficient (e.g. 1 for the most favourite album, 0,9 for the second most favourite, 0,8 for the third and so on).

Thanks for your input, Michal. I was struggling a little with ranking the songs which had received the same points. I had to compile a top 100 megarate purely from how popular the song is with fans. I did try to do my best and I still enjoyed compiling the megarate. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you as the results do look a little unrealistic and from one who sometimes finds he can't accept criticism very well.

I had a quick look at a list I completed prior to this poll. 13 of the Top 20 appeared in my top 20 although not in the positions here. From the first 3 albums only SOS and Mamma Mia made my top 20. Ring Ring was not in my Top 40. That said I love it. Just so much competition from their impressive catalogue.

Michal, I know it wasn't. I did enjoy putting the megarate together but this is my first time that I have collated an ABBA song megarate. I think as other members have already concluded it is down to the fact that the tracks on each ABBA album are uneven and I too, personally wouldn't consider RR to be a favourite among fans. I appreciate your input. It is always welcome.
