Nice-looking forum you've got! I've been a fan of some of ABBA's music for a good while now. I'm not really an uberfan, and a lot of the surrounding stuff - e.g. the whole Mamma-Mia franchise or the old stage costumes or ABBA Gold's current chart position - doesn't grab me; but the music, yes. I also like a wide range of other music - good power pop, post-bop and chamber jazz, folk rock, some 20th century modern and contemporary classical, and especially these days, the whole ambient/drone scene. Contemporary visual art and the works of certain film-makers are also big interests. I'd just like to point out that unlike a lot of the recently arrived above, I haven't migrated over from the other, shortly-to-close, ABBA forum. Not at all. No siree. I just happen to have shown up at the same time that a lot of members from that forum opted to make the switch-over. I look forward to having a nose around in the different sections here, and chipping in when and where I can, and just to reiterate: I'm NOT a member of the old forum, and I've never met any of the above who've come over from there seeking to be taken in here (just ask Alan). Hello!
Why me? I haven't met any of them either! I've only ever met two people from an ABBA forum. One from the official one in 2006 and the other from A4E. I wouldn't say we are "seeking to be taken in" as that sounds a bit desperate, but there's certainly the opportunity to have one great forum. Having two was always a bit tricky.
Physically meeting forum members (and I'm specifically referring to A4E here) seems to create a bit of a clique or inner circle. It certainly changed a few of the members that joined it. We thankfully didn't have that on the other forum and I don't think there's anything like that here either.
Well and truly duped here, Mu. The curse of the changing username!
...Look forward to working out how to navigate around the forum!
The main way that I access the site is with the 'recent posts' link at the foot of the home page. I can also continue to recommend to you the Agnetha 'lookalotalikes' thread; the most recent suggestion of Karin Markland is well worth a look
Welcome to all new members - whether migrating from abbaforum or simply new to the forums It is great to see you here !
For those migrating, I hope you find this forum to your liking - I understand the 2 forums had different aspects, but hopefully we can bring all aspects together in this forum and create a terrific place for all fans to share & chat
Remember, this forum is by fans, for fans - if you have any issues or suggestions be sure to let us know. If you have skills or time to offer to the forum, be sure to let me know also. Mike and I would welcome input
Hello to everybody. I took me a while to find this topic, so I'm introducing myself a little bit late. My name is Michal, I'm in my mid-thirties and I come from the Czech Republic. I'm new to this forum but I've been an ABBA fan for more than 20 years, member of the official ABBA Fan Club and I have even run a website of the Czech ABBA Fan Club's e-magazine for nine years.
I do like both ABBA music and the solo projects, I'm just not too fond of the Mamma Mia! musical. Besides ABBA I have many other favourite artists both from Sweden (Roxette, Marie Fredriksson, Europe, One More Time, Helen Sjöholm, Peter Jöback, Ted Gärdestad...) and from the rest of the world (Bryan Adams, Heart, Alphaville, Queen, Madonna, Asia, R.E.M., Celine Dion and many more). Unfortunately there's not much time for listening to music or discussing ABBA at the moment, as I have a time consuming job and two small children.
Hello! I've been a casual viewer of this forum since it first started, but never had the courage to actually join. But I'm here now! My name is Becky and I've been an ABBA fan for almost 7 years now. I'm sorta known around the ABBA world because of my rather crazy blog and youtube channel. I like to draw, sew, and write and combined my interests to publish a book about ABBA for kids in 2013 and recently redid it this year. I also met my best friend through ABBA, so I'm very grateful for that. I hope to be able to share my art here and meet other ABBA fans as well! Save
I forgot to post this while joining this forum; Ah!
My name is Jonathan and I'm a fan of ABBA since 2016. I'm from the United States. Before I discovered ABBA, I wasn't really into their songs quite deeply, but I liked their mainstream hit songs like 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' and 'Dancing Queen'. When I travelled to another state, their band name, ABBA, stuck to my mind as it has a sense of familiarity to me. Coincidentally, I found out that there was an ABBA tribute band in the state that I was in. But they're no match for the REAL ABBA, for me. My favourite member is obviously Anni-Frid Lyngstad (personally, her voice makes me jump and excited! What a precious babe) and I love her solo works a bit more than ABBA's albums (is that bad?).
I've shifted from listening to 'Mamma Mia' (It was the first ABBA promo video that made me declare Frida as my favourite member) and 'Fernando' consistently to Frida's album, Shine, and ABBA's eponymous 1975 album, which are my favorite albums. I'm fascinated with deep cuts (less known songs) from Frida and ABBA, so I'm likely to align with 'Dum Dum Diddle', 'Should I Laugh or Cry', 'You Know What I Mean', 'Ogonen' and 'On and On and On' whenever if the question 'What's my favorite ABBA or post-ABBA song' comes to me.
Aside from my love of ABBA, I'm a great admirer of krautrock (e.g. Kraftwerk... anything off from the krautrock documentary.), progressive rock, musicals (e.g. Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady), and jazz fusion. I'm also a devoted fan of surrealism and/or English comedy such as Dad's Army, The Goon Show and Monty Python, as their humour is very sublime as much as ABBA's music is. I'm also a relatively new 'Whovian' (Won't bring that up in that forum! HAHAHAHA, I know which car I'm riding) and I play a few instruments like the keyboard, guitar, and others, as a hobby. Also, I'm a lover of computers and electronics (don't get me started on EMS and Moog synthesisers!). I registered to this forum because I kinda want to engage in some sort of discussions relating to ABBA online when I have my spare time.
